Rubin is a unique Bulgarian red wine grape variety.

It is a hybrid created from the French variety Syrah and the Italian variety Nebbiolo.

Wine made from pure Rubin has a deep, almost opaque ruby color.

Aromas include red fruits — sour cherry, cherry, and raspberry.

If aged in oak — which suits the wine well — notes of vanilla, lilac, and light spiciness appear.

About the Rubin Grape

Rubin was registered as a new variety by the State Variety Commission at the end of the 1940s.

It was recommended for planting in Southern and Eastern Bulgaria.

In recent years, climate changes in Bulgaria have allowed this heat-loving grape to also be grown in Northern and Northwestern Bulgaria.

It prefers hilly terrains with deep, moderately fertile soils.

It ripens mid-season and can be harvested in mid-September, reaching good sugar levels of 23–25%.

It is disease-resistant, with medium-compact clusters and small berries.

The skins are firm, waxy, blue-black, full of pigment and tannins.

The flesh is juicy, sweet, with a fresh and balanced taste.
